It's a pity that a place with such history and charm is now used by families as a kid's (and dogs) play area. Staff were excellent, even when a group of seven decided they had a right to take up half the café and smash some of the artwork.
A big fan of the smoky teardrop cocktail.
Superb exhibition by artist Mai-Thu Perret and friendly staff.
If you visit Zurich, I highly recommend it. It is a place steeped in history and a very interesting phenomenon on the contemporary art scene.
Never noticed this place before, but now I've been there I think I'll be back. Nice casual space, not too crowded (Friday night), with a good mix of people. Interesting artwork on the walls, though a lot of it is NSFW. They have a small, but good selection of Absinthe, certainly the best I've found recently. Eclectic mix of reclaimed furniture, which the staff seem happy for customers to rearrange.
Can see the point made by others regarding its empty spirit and poor atmosphere. Server who couldn’t be bothered and very grumpy about having to work there and has a very negative attitude. (Or perhaps issues with people of color, I wondered) And then asked me if I had a problem with it lol. Very disappointing and a let down but perhaps thats the true Dada ethos after all- so an extra star for that :).
Real tourist trap. You ‘ve to pay entrance for the ‘exhibition’. This exhibition is just one small room with one pseudo-art installation (made of papier mache). What a shame.
So with the pilgrimage. There is a tiny exhibit, but there is a library, including films hard to get a hold of. Bar upstairs is fun. Nice bartenders.
What happened to this place? It used to be an improvised, colourful place full of artsy people enjoying one of the vital historical places for Dadaism.
Now it's a dead, empty, and cold concrete bunker. It's totally destroyed. No people, no vibe, no references to Dadaism.
It's so sad that the spirit of art is gone. We visited it on a Saturday evening, and all the other places were full. Only Cabaret Voltaire was empty. And we left after a minute because you could not feel anything in that depressive, heavy room.
I really hope that some artists are drastically remodel it into something it deserves to be. For the moment, it's a dead ruin!
Not just a bar or a coffee house but a place of artistic expression. So sit down for a while and let ethos soak in.
